Discover the historical evolution of Ayn Rand’s public speaking career through this informal overview of the OCON 2025 archives exhibit. Brandon Lisi, associate archivist at the Ayn Rand Archives, provides this behind-the-scenes tour of the “Ayn Rand Speaking” exhibit.
Original artifacts featured in the tour include a rare typescript of the “Individualist Manifesto” and documentation of Rand's 1947 testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee. The tour highlights Rand's extensive relationship with Boston’s Ford Hall Forum, where she delivered 19 lectures between 1961 and 1981. The tour showcases other unique items, such as newspaper clippings from Rand's interviews with Mike Wallace and a personal thank-you note from an Objectivist scholar.
The OCON 2025 archives exhibit details Rand's early efforts to alert the world to the evils of collectivism and her eventual turn toward television and radio to reach "active minds" in the 1960s. (OCON 2025 occurred in Boston, Massachusetts, July 1-5.)
