Steve Ramsey - Woodworking for Mere Mortals | This is and isn’t a sawzall. #shorts @SteveRamsey | Uploaded April 2021 | Updated October 2024, 6 days ago.
This tool is called a circular saw. But a lot of people call it a skill saw because the Skilsaw brand invented the portable circular saw in 1924.
When a brand name becomes a generic term, it's called a generic trademark. Think Kleenex, Chapstick, Velcro, Dumpster, or Linoleum.
Unless you're devoted to brand names, you might be surprised that in the shop, your Crescent wrench might just be an adjustable wrench.
Or that Sawzall is Milwaukee's version of the reciprocating saw.
That Allen wrench that comes in every Ikea box is really a hex key.
Oh and most star drive and square drive screws will work just as well as a Torx or Robertson screws.
