The pendulum is "disturbed" and the resulting motion presents a new and chaotic result. The overall system and each of the individual counterweights and swing arms have been calculated and measured to create a highly balanced system while still allowing for a kinetic sculpture that is both restrained in its overall movement, but sill allowed to present wildly different patterns based on subtle inputs or agitation.
