Some games haunt you. Others challenge you. And some… just drain you.
In this March/April roundup, Retro Rivals played through a wide spectrum of titles—from melancholy rain-soaked alleys to Norse myth epics, disturbing ‘90s point-and-click horrors, forgotten cult favorites, and stylish button-mashers with gravity-defying hair. Most were worth the time. But one? Absolutely not.
We’re not naming names up front—but you might recognize the silhouettes:
👧 A girl trapped in a cruel orphanage, hunted by symbolism and worse.
🧊 A fallen god teaching his son how to survive gods and grief alike.
🖥️ Five broken souls tormented by a machine that hates them with precision.
🌧️ A boy made of water chasing a ghost girl through an invisible world.
📖 A writer, a flashlight, and the darkness between each page.
🪖 A covert mission too short, too grim, and just… wrong.
🥋 A beat-em-up where fashion fights harder than logic.
🦁 A young hero on a quest to bring back the sun, and maybe a childhood.
One of these games left us hollow—not in a good way. Not tragic. Just tedious. Sometimes you push through. This time, we didn’t.
