This is probably the most anticipated piano covers of this anime season, because countless people have requested a piano cover of this song. Now, the time has finally come! Here's my piano cover of the full version of "This Game" - the opening song to No Game No Life!
Initially I didn't want to upload a piano cover, because there are countless piano covers on YouTube already
(I guess I am really late into the "game", but better too late than never...)
But I realized that none of them has made a proper piano cover of the FULL version of this song (which was released on 21th may, 2014)
So in the end, I decided to make a piano cover after all, but a full version!
A few words about the transcription itself:
This piano cover are among my top 10 most difficult pieces I've ever written, because of the very fast speed and numerous two-hand arpeggios.
My left hand got extremely tired after I practiced this piece for 4 hours straight yesterday, prior to recording.
But I personally had a lot of fun playing this piece, because it has a very intense atmosphere: it's like you are playing a rock-concert on the piano, especially the intermission part in 3:17.
I omitted the repeat of the chorus at the end, because I thought it was a bit redundant. Instead, I added the "intro-part" at the end to give it a proper closure.
Alright, this is my final piano cover upload for this spring anime season, I'll see you in the next anime season again!.
Btw, in my 2021 remake of “This game,” I kept the iconic left-hand patterns unchanged and only added a few rhythmic improvements and a new three-hand technique in the second verse.

![Kanashimi no ato ni - AKB0048 OST [Piano]
This particular soundtrack is being played in episode 7 of AKB0048 and it was used for a very melancholic scene in the Anime. Ive expanded the soundtrack with a improvisation-like middle part to make it more interesting, similar to my Euterpe (Guilty Crown OST) piano arrangement.
AKB0048 is really awesome and I am still fanboying very hard about this series.

![GREAT DAYS - JoJos Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable [Piano]
Sheet music → https://mymusic.st/animenzzz/43327
LET THE VOICE OF LOVE TAKE YOU HIGHER ☝☝☝
Ah, Great Days! One of the most cheerful JoJo Openings with the iconic BREAK DOWN BREAK DOWN lyrics at the beginning and a perfect song for this year’s Bizarre Summer. The upbeat nature of the song also reflects this piano arrangement, and you are essentially playing forte from start to finish – a dream for all pianist, who wants to go all out on the piano!
Right from the beginning, I used the three-hand technique to imitate the iconic BREAK DOWN BREAK DOWN while playing the guitar bassline at the same time with alternating hands. I also did the same for all the repeats in 1:16 and 3:38.
This could have been one of the easier arrangements if not for the cursed F# Major key – which has 6 accidentals. But thankfully, the rhythm of this piece is not very complicated and the left-hand patterns are fairly easy to understand as well.
The biggest musical problem I had to solve is the ominous sounding middle part of the original song, starting at 2:44. I experimented with many different scales and the most suitable atmosphere could be achieved by playing a C#7#5 chord (augmented seventh chord) in chromatic succession. And similar to the JoJo Anime Opening Animation, I also applied a “time rewinding” effect for this particular scene in 2:44.
Last but not least, I also added a spectacular finale for this arrangement by playing double trills in 3:50. This alternating hand technique is actually quite popular in advanced piano literature and personally, I think this is the “ultimate” show-off piano technique. It simply looks spectacular for the audience and at the same time, it is not terribly difficult to play as well. (I should use it more often in my future piano covers.)
Alright, that’s it for today! Thank you for reading this week’s “Animenz Explains”! I hope you liked all the small JoJo references in the video and enjoyed listening Great Days on the grand piano! I had lots of fun seeing your reactions during the live chat! ☝️☝️☝️💣💣💣🚑🚑🚑 Thank you for everyone who joined the premiere!
Next week is going to be the final Cover of my JoJo Piano Project and it’s featuring a song from Part 5. It has been a really fun ride on the JoJo Hype Train, but I plan to continue doing more JoJo Piano covers this Winter Anime Season again!
Thank you for watching!
Hope you have a GREAT summer!

My piano arrangement for the ending song of the first season of Shakugan no Shana. I havent noticed for a long time that Yoko Takahashi is actually performing this song - the same singer for A Cruel Angels Thesis. Despite covering only the TV size, this piano arrangement ended up over two minutes long, because Ive included the slow introduction part as well, which was played as a transition to the ending credits in the Anime.
This piece sure bring back some memories.

![Cry Baby - Tokyo Revengers OP [Piano] / Official Hige Dandism
Sheet music → https://mymusic.st/animenzzz/44932
Cry Baby is definitely one of the best Opening Songs of this Summer Anime Season because the bass line of this song is simply irresistible. After finishing my JoJo Piano Project, I decided to make piano covers of seasonal Anime series again, starting with Tokyo Revengers.
This arrangement follows very closely the original song and I tried to imitate the bassline as good as I can in the left hand. I always use staccato whenever the bassline has an active role, for example during the verse in 0:11, the second verse in 1:49 or even the chorus in 2:57.
I only changed one part of the song and that is the “introduction” part at the very beginning. The original song starts in G-minor and then immediately makes a key change to F-minor. For some reason, the key change sounds very out-of-place if you play it on the piano. Therefore I changed it to F-minor to streamline the arrangement a little bit.
Speaking of key change: When I was listening to this song for the first time, I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard the sudden key change in 0:59. That key change was so sudden, so out of the blue, I was completely speechless (and amazed at the same time.)
This piano arrangement is also dedicated to a certain Tokyo Revengers Character in 4:04. “Let’s split it, okay?”
;_;
Alright, that’s it for this week. Starting today, I will upload more songs from recently aired Anime! And the next song is also from YOASOBI, therefore look forward to it!
See you next week again!

![Melissa - Fullmetal Alchemist OP1 [Piano]
Sheet music → https://mymusic.st/animenzzz/65507
The original Fullmetal Alchemist Anime from 2003 has many amazing OP and ED songs but the song which never gets old is the first OP Melissa by Porno Graffitti.
Ive never realized it until closer inspection, but Melissa has many chord progressions which is very typical in classical music. Especially the chord progression in the chorus A-d-G-C-F-B(dim)-E-a (the so called Circle of fifth) has a very irresistible character and it might be the main reason for the enduring popularity of this song.
One of the most distinctive feature of this song is probably the short bass guitar solo in the beginning of the original song. I created a small intro part at the beginning as a contrasting element to give the bass guitar solo in 00:26 more impact upon its first appearance. Most of the classical music elements were added in the bridge part, starting with a counterpoint movement in the bass in 03:38, continuing with a baroque music inspired ornament in 03:50 and finally a short canon imitation in 04:00. The Circle of fifth chord progression is probably one of the most overused musical tropes in the world of classical music, and thats why the musical variations are almost limitless.
Since the piece is being introduced in a classical music style, I decided to finish the song in a similar fashion as well. Most of the time, the final chorus is representing the climax of the entire song and therefore is played with maximum intensity. But for Melissa, I decided to do the opposite as an element of change: the volume of the final chorus is gradually decreasing until it comes to a complete standstill in 04:20. And after a brief pause, the main melody is slowly being re-introduced again - this time as trills, to give it more suspense - and finally leading it to an exciting finale in 04:35.
In a way, this is one of the most classical music style arrangement I have done in a while, because the particular chord progression of Melissa was simply made for this style. I wonder what professional piano teachers think about this piece, because Id love to hear their opinions about my classical music inspired arrangements.
Well then, thats the story behind my Melissa piano arrangement. I dont know which song I am going to arrange next week, so I will continue watching my favorite Anime series until a song is catching my interest.
See you next week!

![again - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood OP1 [Piano]
Sheet music → https://mymusic.st/animenzzz/41461
The first part of my 6-video-special series has finally been uploaded! And Ill start with a piano cover of the first opening of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Again by YUI!
This is one of my favorite opening songs of FMA Brotherhood, next to Period by Chemistry and I think I have never skipped the OP animation even once, when I was watching FMA Brotherhood back then - because it was just so good.
A few words about the sheet: This arrangement follows very closely to the original song by YUI, and I only added minimal amount of original material in the sheet. The beginning of the piece is actually inspired by the TV-size version of the OP song - it starts with a soft version of the chorus instead of the guitar riffs like the full song version.
I paid a lot of attention to the rhythm this time. The left hands accentuation is almost 90% the same as the drumbeats in the original song. The biggest technical difficulty for this sheet are the fast left hand repetition notes 0:58 and the fast right hand jumping 2:09. It took me a while until I could play this properly.
Last but not least, I included a lyrical jazz solo for the final chorus 3:38, before the rest of the instruments finally kicks in, and carries the piece until the end.
Well then, thats it for today! My next project is going to be Resonance, the first OP song of Soul Eater. Until next time!

![JANE DOE - Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc ED [Piano] / Kenshi Yonezu x Hikaru Utada
Chainsaw Man Piano Project 2025 – Part 3: JANE DOE
JANE DOE might be my personal favorite song in the entire CSM series, and having the dream combination of Utada Hikaru and Yonezu Kenshi feels almost unreal. I listen to both artists a lot in my free time, so arranging this duet felt a bit like stepping into their artistic musical world.
The biggest challenge was finding the balance between over-arranging and too empty, all while keeping that gentle swing pulse alive. It’s a deceptively fragile song — if you add too much, it collapses; if you add too little, it loses its breath.
● Denji and Reze — a melancholic duet
I kept the melodic ranges consistent with the original duet: Yonezu in the middle register, Utada above.
My favorite moment is in 2:01, where both voices finally meet. The right hand plays both vocal lines simultaneously so their melodies can melt together. It’s such a satisfying moment on the piano — and also bittersweet, because their voices overlap only here. That was their fate: a brief moment together before everything slipped apart.
● Reze’s unreachable hope
Normally I would add a virtuosic flourish for the finale in 3:25, but the message of the song — and the movie — is the tragedy of two people destined never to meet again.
So instead, the ending becomes an elegy for Reze.
The melody rises higher and higher until it almost disappears, mirroring how she ascends beyond Denji’s reach. I always wondered: did she see Denji holding the flower bouquet? What would their first words have been if she had made it to the café?
● Denji left behind
Compare the outro in 4:21 with the intro at the beginning: the upper-layer melody is missing — because of Reze’s sudden absence in Denji’s life.
And unlike most of my arrangements, the final chord doesn’t resolve. It just hangs there, suspended.
Denji is still waiting in the café for Reze — a story without a true ending, mirrored by music that refuses to settle.
You have probably realized already, but I really love this movie.
See you in my next upload again.

![Tamashii no Refrain - Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth Theme Song [Piano]
Sheet music → https://mymusic.st/animenzzz/74166
Compared to A Cruel Angels Thesis, the theme song of the first Evangelion movie Death & Rebirth is fairly unknown outside of Japan. Which is completely undeserved, because the powerful chorus in Tamashii no Refrain is simply unforgettable and it makes me shiver every time I listen to it.
The original song from 1997 had a synthesizer bass rhythm, which was continuing through the entire piece, but I occasionally used some rhythmical variations to make it a little bit more interesting for the piano. It is especially audible in the first verse 01:25 and in the second chorus 03:27
I was also experimenting how to arrange the majestic choir part in the bridge in 02:39. The first draft of my arrangement was actually just playing the chords without anything else added. But it didnt have the same spiritual atmosphere as the original song and I felt like something was still missing on the piano. After some thinking, I remembered there was a similar choir part from A Cruel Angels Thesis. I included the same rhythmic pattern for this particular choir part as well and the piano was finally creating a sound I was initially looking for.
The second verse in 02:58 was deliberately arranged in a calm atmosphere to serve as a direct contrast to the earlier dramatic choir part. I let the music slowly build up until it reaches the second chorus 03:27, which is played in staccato this time. I was also thinking for a while how to arrange the finale because the original songs enigmatic ending is hard to translate into the piano. At the end, I decided to use a simple improvised melody line in 04:47 to bring this arrangement to a conclusion.
Well then, thats it for this weeks upload. I am surprised that some Anime songs are still super popular in Japan while being virtually unknown elsewhere in the world. Since I have been arranging all those decade old Anime songs recently, the next weeks arrangement is going to be another nostalgia song. Pretty sure most of the people here are very familiar with the next one as well.
Until next week then!

![Boku no Sensou (My War) - Attack on Titan: Final Season OP [Piano] / Shinsei Kamattechan
Sheet music → https://mymusic.st/animenzzz/43817
「Boku no Sensou」or 「My war」 is probably the most crazy opening song I have heard in a while and all I could think of was “Anime OP, but presented as a death march”. Because we are now entering the endgame of the epic story of Attack on Titan and it has one prevailing topic: War.
Although the arrangement doesn’t sound that complicated, it is actually one of my most difficult pieces I have uploaded for a long time. The constant polyphony in many parts of this arrangement is probably the main reason why it is so technically challenging to play, because you have to balance the voices well and emphasize certain melodies if it’s needed.
I also started to utilize the “four hand” technique: Basically, each hand is playing two layers of melody at the same time. For example, the intro part in 00:08 has actually 4 instrumental layers: the right hand is playing the C#-C-C#-G# “Bell” sound and the higher “Choir” voice while the left hand is playing the bassline and a fast, rhythmic pattern, imitating the “drums”.
I could hear at least 6 different musical layers in the chorus part in 01:14 and it was hard for me to decide, which melody I should prioritize and which one I can omit. I tried to combine as many layers as possible with my 2 hands (I really, really wish I have 3 hands) to imitate the overwhelming atmosphere of the original song.
Btw, the “bell” ostinato C#-C-C#-G# motif in 00:01 reminds me of “Dies Irae” (Day of Wrath), an ancient hymn usually sung as a part of a Requiem, aka a Mass for the Dead. Which fits in pretty nicely for Attack on Titan, since the Opening animation is displaying nothing but War, destruction and regeneration. (笑)
Speaking of the Opening Animation, I also tried to imitate the Art style by filming this video in monochrome only, except the lighting in the background, which remains colorful. I hope you enjoy those kinds of special video edit every once in a while!
Last but not least: This arrangement also serves as my personal piano etude, because it features many piano techniques which I am actually bad at. For example, the fourth runs in 02:45, the double hand jumps in 01:30, the very uncomfortable left hand pattern in 00:07 and the polyphonic rhythms in 01:37. I was really challenging all my “weak points” this time, because the only way I can improve my piano technique is to leave my comfort zone. I guess I will never learn enough as an pianist.
Alright, thank you for reading so far and also, thank you for watching my videos! Next week, I will arrange another Anime song, which is from a currently airing Anime. But it won’t be as crazy difficult as this one. I hope.
See you next week then!
