silvestrons bits and bytes | This fix is essential if you have a Super CD-ROM²! @silvestronsbitsandbytes | Uploaded March 2024 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Finally, we come to the big job - this is the recap of the Super CD-ROM². These beauties suffered from the capacitor plague of the 90s and if not worked on will have poor sound and trouble just working and loading games in general, so an essential fix.
A viewer sent in this lovely Japanese console for repair, the NEC PC Engine Core Grafx II and the Super CD-ROM². In part 1, I tackled the Core Grafx II with a full clean and recap, and it turned out great. In part 2, I dove into this Super CD-ROM² and investigated what work needed doing and parts ordering.

I am NOT an expert, I have genuinely NO idea what I'm doing, and mostly just glue things together and use a lot of Google-fu until stuff works. I've been tinkering with electronics since I was a kid but have no formal training and will probably do things incorrectly. If you learn something from this, that's awesome, but trust me - I'm learning too!
