Today, Old Basing is just an empty grassy field next to a ruined medieval barn. But 300 years ago, this spot hid the luxurious home of England's most eccentric nobleman: The "Mad" Duke of Bolton.

The house is completely gone in the real world. So today, I'm using forensic mapping and historical clues to dig it up and rebuild it in Minecraft, From Bricks to Blocks.

After the English Civil War, the massive Basing House fortress was wiped off the map by Oliver Cromwell. But decades later, the Duke returned to build a defiant hunting lodge right next to the ruins. Using 19th-century estate maps and the surviving Great Barn as my anchor points, I'm reconstructing this lost 1690s mansion block by block to see what it looked like to live in the shadow of destruction.
