In the early 1800s, European sailors crossing the Pacific often spoke about New Zealand with a mixture of fear and fascination. Stories of heavily tattooed warriors, organized warfare, revenge killings, and cannibalism spread from ship to ship. But in 1809, one British vessel sailed there anyway, despite this fearsome reputation. Unbeknownst to those onboard, though, the true danger of the voyage was not what awaited them in New Zealand, but something already unfolding aboard the ship itself. This is that horrifying story, and although the events of this video are fleeting and non-descriptive, they’re still highly disturbing, so viewer discretion is strongly advised. Historical look at the events on the Boyd trade ship
