I’ve spent the past few months using the xTool M2 to find out whether it genuinely makes laser crafting easier—or simply combines several complicated tools inside one machine.
We look at the initial setup, hardware, interchangeable modules and xTool Studio laser engraving software. I also test the dual-camera positioning system and demonstrate how the M2 can print a full-colour CMYK design before accurately cutting around it.
The xTool M2 is available with a 10W or 20W blue diode laser, alongside optional infrared engraving and CMYK inkjet printing modules. It also features an enclosed Class 1 design, built-in air assist and camera-guided alignment for easier laser cutting and engraving.
Beyond the initial setup, I use the xTool M2 to create personalised teacher gift boxes, signs, labels, layered artwork and other craft projects using paper, card, wood and fabric.
Seeing the machine complete real projects provides a much clearer picture of the precision, print quality and versatility you can expect in your own craft room, home workshop or small business.
However, this isn’t simply an advert. I also examine the practical xTool M2 limitations, including ventilation, extraction, material preparation, water-based ink, non-refillable cartridges, maximum material height and its reliance on the xTool software ecosystem.
