This caterpillar looks like a snake — specifically a viper. Two Hemeroplanes caterpillars on the same tree, one of the rarest sights in the Costa Rica rainforest. This snake mimic caterpillar inflates its body to fool predators into thinking it's a venomous snake. Then there's a second one. Both will eventually become hawk moths. This mimicry shows the incredible biodiversity of the Ocho Verde Wildlife Refuge.
