In this review, I’m testing the 8TB Lexar ARMOR 700 with my Mac, looking at real-world transfer speeds, Blackmagic Disk Speed Test results, durability, portability, and explaining why Apple’s lack of USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 support limits this 2,000MB/s SSD to roughly half its potential performance.
I’ll also explain exactly what USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 means, why Thunderbolt isn’t necessarily the better choice when you need a massive 8TB portable drive, and whether the ARMOR 700 is worth its roughly $800 street price.
If you work with massive Final Cut Pro projects, RAW photos, or just need a ton of fast storage you can throw in your bag, this may be one of the best portable SSDs available.
