A group of professors at the University of Southern California have built a 60-foot-long hydraulic model of the Los Angeles River. They can run through different flooding scenarios along 1.5 miles of the river near Elysian Valley. This can help visualize the severity of past rain or flood events like the 1938 flood or Tropical Storm Hilary in 2023. The tool can also help visualize more extreme events, which will become more frequent and intense with climate change.
