Today I review the FiiO Warmer R2R Tube DAC, a $349 DAC that shocked me in my high-end system.
This little DAC has a fully differential R2R design, four tubes, real glowing VU meters, RCA and balanced XLR outputs, USB-C, optical and coax inputs, plus NOS and OS modes. On paper, it already seems crazy for the money. In use, it was even more surprising.
I tested the FiiO Warmer with the WiiM Ultra, Eversolo T10, Matrix NT-1, AGD Allegro integrated amplifier, SV Audio Gro speakers, and compared it against much more expensive DACs including the internal R2R DAC inside the AGD Allegro and my $12k Imersiv D1.
No, this does not beat the mega-dollar DACs in ultimate refinement, solidity, bass weight, or silky smoothness. But for $349, the Warmer brings a gorgeous midrange, open soundstage, real musicality, surprising build quality, and a taste of high-end R2R/tube sound for almost no money in HiFi terms.
This may be the best bang-for-the-buck product I have ever reviewed.
