Can a portable power station actually keep your food cold during a power outage? In this video I put the Aferiy Nomad 1800 (P180) through real world runtime testing to find out exactly how long its 1024Wh LiFePO4 battery can run a full size refrigerator, a chest freezer, an ice maker, and multiple appliances running at the same time.
The Aferiy Nomad 1800 is rated for 1800W of continuous output with a pure sine wave inverter, built on a 1024Wh LiFePO4 battery pack rated for over 4000 charge cycles. At just 25.6 pounds, it's one of the lighter portable power stations in this capacity class, with 13 total output ports including four AC outlets, USB-A, USB-C PD, a car power output, and DC5521 ports. It also includes built in UPS protection with a sub 10 millisecond switchover time, which matters if you're running sensitive electronics during an outage.
In this test I ran the unit through four real world scenarios that go beyond the spec sheet:
First, I connected a standard household refrigerator to see how many hours of continuous runtime the Nomad 1800 could deliver before the battery was depleted, tracking the compressor cycle draw throughout the test.
Second, I ran a chest freezer on the same battery to compare its runtime against the fridge, since chest freezers and upright fridges pull power very differently depending on insulation and compressor duty cycle.
Third, I tested an ice maker, which draws a surprising amount of power during its freeze cycle, to see whether the Nomad 1800 could handle it without tripping any overload protection.
Finally, I loaded multiple appliances onto the unit at the same time to simulate a real emergency power outage scenario, where you're not just running one device but trying to keep several essentials going at once.
