Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Gen 1 is a budget-friendly and compact laptop that keeps the classic ThinkPad experience with a comfortable keyboard, TrackPoint, ThinkShutter camera cover, and solid build quality. Released in 2020, it was available with Intel Celeron or 10th Gen Core i3/i5/i7 processors. However, the lower price comes with a list of compromises: no Thunderbolt support, soldered RAM with no upgrade option, no built-in Ethernet port, an awkwardly placed power button and average battery life of the L18M4P90 Lithium-ion battery. Despite its age, the L13 Gen 1 works well with Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, using the newer Linux 7.0 kernel and GNOME 50 desktop environment running on Wayland display protocol, which provide good hardware compatibility, smooth performance, and modern software support. For ThinkPad L13 models equipped with only 8GB of soldered RAM, increasing the swap size is recommended to reduce memory pressure, improve multitasking, and provide a smoother experience when running heavier applications.

![The Yocto Project on Raspberry Pi 5 Episode 8: Using ConnMan Network Manager for Wi-Fi Connectivity
ConnMan is an open-source, command-line network manager designed for embedded Linux devices with a focus on fast connection handling and resolution times. First released in 2008, it is written in C, licensed under the GNU GPL, and its source code is hosted in a Git repository on kernel.org.
📡 Using ConnMan
- Bring up the Wi-Fi interface wlan0
rfkill unblock wifi
ip link set wlan0 up
- Enter connman CLI
connmanctl
- Enable Wi-Fi (only if it is not enabled)
technologies
enable wifi
- Scan for W-Fi networks:
scan wifi
- List the found and available Wi-Fi networks (write down the wireless network service with format like wifi_[MAC_ADDR]_[SSID_HEX]_managed_psk:
services
- Turn on agent:
agent on
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network:
connect wifi_[MAC_ADDR]_[SSID_HEX]_managed_psk
- If the network is secured the agent will prompt you to enter a password:
Agent RequestInput wifi_[MAC_ADDR]_[SSID_HEX]_managed_psk
Passphrase = [ Type=psk, Requirement=mandatory ]
Passphrase?
🤔 Troubleshooting
To bring up the WiFi interface automatically at boot on embedded Linux distributions with systemd create file /etc/systemd/network/10-wlan0.network with the following content:
[Match]
Name=wlan0
[Network]
DHCP=yes
