I’m from Japan, and I’ve been living in Singapore for about 7 years. Singapore is one of the safest, cleanest, and most convenient countries in the world. But even after all these years, there are still some things here that genuinely scare me.
Some are literally scary.
Some are socially scary.
Some are financially scary.
And some are scary because Singaporeans treat them like completely normal things.
In this video, I talk about the Singapore habits, beliefs, and everyday situations that still shock me as a Japanese person - from asking permission before entering hotel rooms, super fast escalators, PMDs, COE prices, chope culture, funeral wakes under HDB blocks, caning, offerings, wildlife, and more.
Of course, this video is made with love. I’m not saying Singapore is bad - actually, many of these things are what make Singapore so unique and interesting to me.
But as a Japanese person… some things still give me a small heart attack.
