Councillor Simon Alders, representing Bury St Edmunds, Moreton Hall and Eastgate, says the site could accommodate at least 1,250 men—and claims the eventual number might be considerably higher. He calls the plan “complete insanity” and argues that local residents already struggling to obtain NHS dental care and GP appointments could face even greater pressure.
He also questions the suitability of the location, the effect on police resources and whether the Government should withdraw from the ECHR.

Her message to the Government is uncompromising: stop, detain and deport those without a right to remain, publish the crime data she believes is being withheld and stop placing migrant accommodation close to schools and small communities.
