Can the venerable Commodore 64 actually run Doom? We've seen Doom running on everything from LeapFrog toys to digital thermostats, but today we’re testing out a custom Doom-like 3D engine built for the C64 Ultimate! Developer Honza reached out with an open-source 3D engine running at 64 MHz with REU map support. While it isn’t a full commercial game port with shooting and weapons, it renders the classic E1M1 layout with moving sectors, sprites, and working doors directly on Commodore hardware. In this video, we inspect the required .config, .reu, and .prg files, walk through the setup process on the C64 Ultimate, and take a tour through the engine.
