During the 1930s, the US Army Air Corps and Department of Defense instigated parallel programs to augment the military’s capacity for strategic bombing. As the Allies catapulted to war by the end of that decade, the United States worked to perfect two of the country’s most closely held secret weapons: the B17 Bomber and the Norden Bombsight.
