Other animals make their feelings known, sometimes in ways we understand even in humans, other times in ways specific to who they are. But they beg for their lives, they express their confusion and fear - humans just decide to ignore it. As someone who has spoken about animal ethics for over a decade, worryingly I have heard often that people will stop using other animals when they can talk, when they can ask them not to (yes, really). We shouldn’t need to be told that violating someone’s rights should be avoided. We shouldn’t need to be told that when they’re screaming at us, they’re talking.
