Shorter video today, but it’s on one of my favorite slabs, the NGC 8.0.
This was originally supposed to be a long-lasting slab for NGC in the summer (~3-4 weeks) of 2000. The font on the label was changed along with its size, the barcode was made smaller and pushed beneath the grade, and the cert number was squished down below the barcode as if it was a tiny afterthought.
These were very unpopular, and within a month these holders were replaced.
During this time NGC also experimented with letter designations too. ‘T’ stood for stand out toned coins and ‘W’ for bright white coins. The Appalachian hoard of toned Jefferson nickels also were slabbed during this time.
Unfortunately, on NGC’s website, they do not have this slab, among many others, in the holder generation page leaving most of the collecting community in the dark.
Premiums are small, and most of these pass unnoticed by dealers & collectors small and large.
