These 2008 Fender Japan Mickey and Minnie Telecasters are not just novelty items. They are incredibly rare limited edition instruments, with only 100 Mickey models and 200 Minnie models ever made. On loan from Very Nice Guitars, they feature basswood bodies, maple modern C necks, and dark, chocolatey rosewood fingerboards that remind me of classic 90s USA Fenders. Built to deliver vintage Telecaster twang, they completely surprised me with how much fun they are to play.

I tested them clean through a Fender Deluxe Reverb, pushed the Japanese pickups with an Ace Amplification Colt plexi tone, and finally dropped them into D to see if a Mickey Mouse guitar could handle high-gain riffs through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier.

Then the JHS Kilt 10 arrives in its tartan trousers, based on the old X-Pandora but refined, more controllable, and capable of everything from clean boost to full gated fuzz chaos thanks to those G1 and G2 toggles. From there we head into full modelling madness with the Fractal AM4 – over 240 amp models, around 45 DynaCabs, over 300 effects, USB-C audio, SPDIF, dual expression inputs and an FX loop, all in a pedal-sized box that undercuts a lot of the current competition in price. It is currently only shipping to the US and Canada, which of course makes the rest of us want it even more. On the more theatrical side, Gibson and Epiphone Bats in Flight bring mother-of-pearl and pearloid bats to Les Pauls, Flying Vs and a very purple acoustic, all in Guitar Center exclusive finishes. The Gibsons are hilariously expensive, the Epiphone version is far more realistic and still looks ridiculous in the best possible way. Finally, my Pick of the Week is the Harley Benton King-12 CE-NT, a jumbo 12-string with a solid spruce top, maple back and sides and a Fishman preamp for around 300 notes. Basically an SJ-200-style 12-string for half what you would expect and with better specs than some of the big names.
