The 90s were packed with video game mascots. Sure, we had legends like Mario and Sonic who defined an era—but we also had hundreds of wannabes that didn’t stand the test of time. Every publisher wanted their own mascot, and the result was a wave of forgotten characters and games that never found an audience.
Some of these SNES mascot games weren’t even that bad, but they got buried under the hype or lost in the overcrowded sea of furry animals trying to cash in. This week, we’re looking back at a few of those failed mascots—characters that tried too hard, made some terrible decisions, or simply faded into nothingness. And of course, we’ll kick things off with the one mascot that sums up “too much hype, not enough game.”
