One of the biggest pains in the butt about making a good smart home is the sheer number of different platforms that smart home products can be used under, like Google Home, Apple Homekit, and Amazon Alexa. And this can make finding accessories to go with these platforms really difficult and if you decide to switch from one platform to another, it becomes a very expensive process and a huge headache. An accessory might only work with Google, one might only work with Alexa, it’s a pain. But there are multiple ways to fix this problem, like using a 3rd party platform like home assistant which can enable devices that don’t work in your current smart home, into something that does work with your smart home. But that requires a little bit of techy know-how and a level of maintenance your average people probably don’t want to deal with. Then the other solution is to get products that support matter already, which is an open standard for smart devices that opens their use to basically every major smart home platform. These are usually the most compatible devices for your smart home. So that’s why I was interested in what today’s sponsor Aqara had to offer.
