If you've ever driven past Christian Tours on Highway 16 in North Carolina, you've probably seen the main building sitting up on the hill. What you can't see from the road is just how much is actually behind it.
I recently returned to Christian Tours doing graphic design, catalog and website work after having worked here many years ago. One day during lunch I grabbed my Insta360 X6 and decided to walk around the property—and even I was surprised by some of what I found.
We start downstairs where Tammy and I do graphic design work, then head outside and up the hill to the motorcoach operation.
Along the way I take you inside the shop where the coaches are serviced, cleaned and maintained, walk through the fleet, climb aboard one of today's modern motorcoaches, and look at some of the smaller shuttle vehicles Christian Tours uses to bring travelers to pickup points. The modern coaches have changed quite a bit since the ones I remember from more than two decades ago.
Then I discover another part of the property I didn't even know existed—a meeting facility with a large mural, grounds-maintenance areas, tractors, mowers, equipment and considerably more property hidden behind what you can see from Highway 16.
There are even apple and pear trees. I wasn't expecting lunch to turn into fruit picking.
Along the way I talk about how Christian Tours operates and the enormous variety of trips the company offers—from motorcoach tours throughout the United States and Canada to fly tours, cruises and international travel.
This isn't really a sales pitch. It's more of an informal behind-the-scenes exploration of a place that's been part of my own working life at two very different times—and a look at everything required behind the scenes to send travelers all over the country and the world.
