There’s a giant ship in the middle of Hong Kong — and it’s not what it looks like.
The Whampoa in Hung Hom was built in the 1990s on the site of the old Whampoa Dockyard, one of Hong Kong’s most important shipbuilding yards in the past. Instead of removing that history, developers turned it into something unexpected — a full-scale ship-shaped shopping mall placed right in the middle of a residential district.
