Who's Coming To Dinner?
An ill fated evening where a married couple decide to stay and have dinner at home with potentially disastrous results caused by an unintentional Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion.
Potential kitchen catastrophe.
It was a beautiful night. It was warm and there was a slight breeze. But how could we have known what was going to happen on that ill fated night? How could anyone know?
The event that followed was terrifying...But we did survive it. This is our story.
We had planned to stay home that evening and have a nice meal together. We were going to talk, laugh and have a glass of nice wine together. But that didn't happen...
What was that! Noi are you OK?
So how did it happen? What caused that explosion?
Awwhh! The boiling oil sprayed all over the ceiling and it's all over the floor and over the counter. Oh there's a lot of cleaning up to do here.
She placed the lid on the pot of boiling oil, which in turn caused a build-up of gaseous oil inside the pot. As a few minutes went by, the vapour pressure increased and when she removed the lid it caused a vapour cloud of oi a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion, also known as a bleve.
So the lesson learned here is don't cover a bot with boiling oil in it. It needs to be well ventilated so that the gaseous oil vapours can disperse and then there will be no means for there to be an explosion.
The main thing though, is no one was seriously hurt.
