The melody gained widespread popularity in the late 18th century when Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed a set of twelve variations on it for the piano. The variations were published as Mozart's K. 265 and are commonly known as “Twelve Variations on ‘Ah, vous dirai-je Maman’”.
