The Musical Alphabet:
A B C D E F G

# = sharp, an increase in pitch
b = flat, an increase in pitch

The 12 tones:
A A#/Bb B C C#/Db D D#/Eb E F F#/Gb G G#/Ab

A#/Bb are the same pitch
If you go from A higher to A#, use the # sign
If you go from B lower to Bb, use the b sign

Half step = one fret distance
Whole step = two frets distance

Memorize the pattern to learn all of the notes across the fretboard
