Pat Benatar has been making music for almost 40 years. She broke down so many barriers for women in rock music. She’s an incredible woman and my hero. Her story is an amazing one and she continues to fight towards equality and continues to inspire. I cannot express how much I love this woman.

The Doubleclicks are a band from Portland that make incredible nerd folk music about feminism, cats and dinosaurs. They are brilliant role models for people everywhere. Their music has been such a huge part of my life for the last few years and I don’t think I would still be doing this without them. Not all heroes wear capes…. except The Doubleclicks do occasionally wear capes. They love capes.

The PDX Broadsides are a band from Portland that are extremely funny, talented and damn amazing songwriters. I wish I could sing like Jessica and Hollyanna. Together, with Christian, they make great songs about science, pirates and representation. I love their music and I adore them.

Bif Naked is a Canadian rock star and humanitarian. She’s has been making music since 1994. She was the first artists I ever heard talking openly about sexuality and expressing it through her music. She’s a breast cancer survivor and spends so much of her time working to support charities. She was one of the first female rock stars I ever looked up to and I wouldn’t be the badass I am today without her music guiding me through my teenage years.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is an anthem in itself but one day when listening to it the idea for this parody came into my head. Harassment at conventions is a huge problem and one that I’ve seen time and again. Admiring a costume is lovely, but taking it as an open invitation to be a dickhead is not. COSPLAY IS NOT CONSENT.
