“Sunrise” is what I imagine waking up in NYC in the 1980’s would be like. The plucky arp and gritty heavy 5th bass line is always moving and transforming to represent the city is alive and never sleeps. Powerful 4 on the floor drums are the heartbeat of the song, driving you along the concrete streets accompanied by hopeful 80s brass synths and vocoders. Even when things get tough or don’t go your way, there’s always the hope because anything is possible in NYC. With every missed train, there’s always a new one on the way along with unexpected adventures.

Ive always tried to push myself outside the typical topics that perform well according to the Industry (love songs, break up songs, etc.) and I wanted to touch upon the topic of Cognitive Dissonance. Its difficult to see youre in an unhealthy situation when youve been gas lit the entire time. Even though everyone else can see it for what it is, you have to realize it for yourself to make necessary changes. I wanted the production for the track to convey a sense of driving urgency to match the lyrics. To me it feels like after a long journey in the dark, you finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and now you have to run towards it as fast as you can before everything collapses around you trapping you forever in the rubble. The structure of this song is a bit different but I also wanted to experiment by adding a bit of electro to my signature synthwave and retrowave vibes. And of course, who doesnt want TWO guitar solos :)
