Mit Schwanensee schuf Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowsky ein Meisterwerk, das durch die Fassung von 1895 (Marius Petipa/Lew Iwanow) weltberühmt wurde. Lillian Stillwell, Tanzdirektorin & Chefchoreografin am Theater Münster, widmet sich diesem ikonischen Stoff nun mit DIE SCHWÄNE in einer zeitgenössischen Neuinterpretation.
Die Handlung wird aus der Perspektive der weiblichen Hauptfigur Odette erzählt, die nicht nur Objekt von Siegfrieds Liebe ist, sondern so zum selbstbestimmten Mittelpunkt der Handlung wird. Zugleich hinterfragt Stillwell die Uniformität der Schwanenwelt und nutzt das klassische Ballett als formale Grundlage in einem zeitgenössischen Tanzkontext, der auf Vielfältigkeit, Authentizität und Emotionalität setzt.

Swan Lake, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, became world-famous in the 1895 version choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. With DIE SCHWÄNE (“The Swans”), Lillian Stillwell — Dance Director and Chief Choreographer at Theater Münster, Germany — dedicates herself to this iconic work in a contemporary reinterpretation.
The female lead character Odette is the focal point in Stillwell’s version. The plot unfolds from her perspective; she is not only Siegfried’s love interest, but is the self-determined centre of the narrative. At the same time, Stillwell questions the uniformity of the swans’ world and uses ballet as a central reference point in a contemporary dance context that emphasises diversity, authenticity and emotionality.
