General Stumme's chest tightens as his staff confirms it: British artillery is pounding their northern positions. Six hundred tanks, a thousand guns, and an entire armored corps are attacking from positions that held only supply trucks yesterday.
This couldn't be.
For six weeks, German reconnaissance flights had captured the same ominous sight in the south: hundreds of tanks, mountains of supplies, an entire armored corps poised for attack. Now, as the north erupts in battle, Stumme is caught in a vice: pull forces from the south to reinforce the fighting, or risk leaving it exposed if the Allies strike?
Then the message comes from the southern sector. The British armor isn’t moving. Can’t move. They’re not tanks at all.
