My girlfriend was so happy knowing she wouldn’t lose me to the World Cup. Since I’m not into soccer, she thought we were safe. No endless matches, no screaming at the TV, no disappearing for hours. Everything was going according to plan.

But then the Nintendo Switch 2 trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time dropped… and the second those three Lost Woods notes played, it was over. My attention was gone instantly. Years of nostalgia hit all at once, and suddenly I was mentally somewhere in Hyrule.

It’s funny how one tiny sound can completely take over your brain. Forget the World Cup, this is my version of it. If Nintendo knows one thing, it’s exactly how to weaponize nostalgia against us.
