As a huge fan of Roald Dahl's delightfully demented book, The Witches, as well as Nicolas Roeg's 1990 film adaptation starring Anjelica Huston, I was beyond excited to hear that Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, The Polar Express) was directing a new vision of the story, while Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Crimson Peak) and Alfonso Cuaron (Roma, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) were set to produce with Anne Hathaway starring as the Grand High Witch and Octavia Spencer as Grandma.
And to be streaming on HBO Max just in time for Halloween...exciting af. But unfortunately, the film did not click for me. Let's review why.
