Possible connections between the oak tree, the sky gods and the sun which may express itself in the solstice period in some myths, with various gods being born at this time who are not strictly speaking solar.
Please note: This is not to say Zeus and Lug are the same, but they are both partaking in similar aspects. Lug is likely to be equated with archaic Mars, who was strongly connected to agriculture, the annual cycle, the founding of the state, and warfare. Both Jupiter and Mars were sky deities, but likely before strong Greek influence Jupiter was more aligned with the sky in general and procreative functions and Mars with the power of the storm. Both had sacred oak trees, and Mars is linked to prophecy as well.
