Genetically Modified Skeptic | The Wild World of Ancient Christian Propaganda @GeneticallyModifiedSkeptic | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated 2 minutes ago
Over 1600 years ago, propaganda was just as prevalent (and influential) as it is today. One source of ancient propaganda was orthodox Christian heresiology. Here, I cover excerpts from Tertullian’s “Against Marcion,” Irenaeus’ “Against Heresies,” and Epiphanius’ “Panarion.” Marcionites and Christian gnostic sects were constantly mocked, likely misrepresented, and accused of immoral acts within these texts. The proto-orthodox claim their theological superiority was key to their rise to dominance, but could it have actually been the result of a successful propaganda campaign?
