Left in the proverbial biscuit tin and presumed lost for 30 years, the footage was subsequently restored and immortalised in what is now the Blu-ray edition of ‘The Who at Kilburn 1977.’

VIDEO INFO: I was surprised to find this wasnt already on YouTube – a comparatively rare outing for an ‘Everything Must Go’ ditty, which perhaps gets overlooked in the crowd on that album, during their magnificent Reading Festival headline slot on Saturday 23 August 1997.
They shared joint billing with the global juggernaut that was Metallica – unimaginable a couple of years earlier – and Nicky Wire described this gig as a personal high point, resulting as it did in them grabbing the front covers of the following week’s NME and the Melody Maker which was a big deal in the British music industry back then.
It was perhaps the fourth or fifth time I saw them on the EMG tour and the only one of which I have clear memories (despite being unquestionably the worst for wear) because the whole event had a very special vibe. They were so energetic – positively ecstatic by their standards – with JDB dancing mid-chord from one side of the stage to the other and Nicky in a semi-transparent, camouflage gown looking as giddy as an emo-chick at her first prom.
This lone song from the set appeared as one of the DVD extras from the 10th-anniversary release in 2006; unfortunately most of the material on that disc was compressed and badly interlaced but I have done my best to remedy it here.
