Glossika | The Whimsical World of Endangered Languages || Glossika live event #4 @Glossika | Uploaded August 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Our guest speaker for this session will be Shawn Khefets, a polyglot from Latvia. Growing up in a multicultural environment, Shawn was already speaking 4 languages by age 10.
In high school, he taught himself Manx, and helped translate Minecraft into the language to create a new and fun resource for children. He achieved his Bachelor of Arts degree in linguistics from Lancaster University and now works as a translator of English, Russian, Hebrew and Latvian.
Finally, he spends some of his free time running his own Youtube channel (@imshawngetoffmylawn ) where he focuses on obscure and endangered languages!
In this live session, he’ll be talking about endangered languages, such as ǃXóõ, the language with the most sounds in the world, and Ket, a language spoken in Siberia which is related to many Native American languages.
