Christianity sounds a lot less majestic when you say the whole thing plainly: virgin birth, talking snake, inherited guilt, eating God, eternal torture, and an apocalypse that has been “any day now” for 2,000 years. The weird part isn’t that people believe it. The weird part is how normal it can feel when it’s wrapped in childhood, family, and church.
