On July 27, 2004, Burger King launched one of the strangest—and most successful—viral marketing campaigns in internet history.

Called "Subservient Chicken," the website let users type commands into a text box, and a person dressed in a chicken costume would perform them almost instantly. With more than 300 pre-recorded responses, it felt surprisingly interactive for its time.

Long before YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or TikTok became part of everyday life, millions of people visited the bizarre website and shared it with friends. The campaign became one of the internet's earliest viral sensations and forever changed the way companies approached online advertising.
