The Wedding Day (Isaiah 62) Powerful sermon by Pastor JD Howell
What will it be like when God gathers His redeemed people to Himself forever? In this powerful message from Isaiah 62, Pastor JD Howell walks through the beautiful picture of a coming wedding between Christ and His people. Isaiah 62 reminds us that God is not distant, cold, or finished with His children. Instead, He is a pursuing Savior who delights in His people, renames them by His grace, and rejoices over them as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.
The chapter paints an incredible picture of the coming Kingdom of Jesus Christ and the joy that awaits the redeemed. Though the world may label people by failure, weakness, and sin, God gives His people a new name through His grace. Isaiah 62:5 says, “and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.” What an amazing truth that the God of Heaven delights in His people and faithfully pursues them even when they wander, fail, or grow discouraged.
This sermon also challenges believers to respond to God’s promises with persistent prayer and bold proclamation. God calls His people to “keep not silence” and continue praying for His promises to be fulfilled. At the same time, Christians are called to remove obstacles that keep people from coming to Christ and to lift up the banner of Jesus boldly before the world. In a culture that often hides faith or waters down truth, this message reminds us to joyfully point others to our Savior and live as faithful invitations to the coming wedding day.
Isaiah 62:4 declares, “Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the Lord delighteth in thee.” No matter your past, your failures, or your struggles, God’s grace is greater. He still pursues, restores, and rejoices over His people.
