Newly released police bodycam footage captures The View co-host and former federal prosecutor Sunny Hostin responding after her 24-year-old son, Gabriel Hostin, was stopped by police near active Metro-North railroad tracks in New Rochelle, New York. According to court records, Gabriel received a trespassing citation after officers found him on railroad property marked with "No Trespassing" signs.
In the video, Hostin tells officers, "My name is Sunny Hostin... I'm one of the co-hosts of The View and I'm a former federal prosecutor." She also emphasizes that her son is a Harvard graduate, has no criminal record, and teaches fourth-grade geometry, arguing that the incident was an innocent mistake. The footage has sparked widespread debate online over whether she was simply advocating for her son or attempting to obtain leniency by referencing her legal background and public profile.
Gabriel told officers he believed he had entered the area accidentally while jogging because a gate was open. Hostin has since written to prosecutors asking that the citation be dismissed, arguing the signage was not clearly visible and that prosecution would be unjust. She is also representing her son in the matter.
Watch the bodycam footage and decide for yourself: Was this a mother advocating for her son, or did she cross the line by invoking her former position as a federal prosecutor?
