With the support of the Archaeology Grant managed by the Utah SHPO, St. George City recently completed improvements and interpretive signage at Tonaquint Park. The name Tonaquint is derived from the Southern Paiute term "Tunakwint," or “black flowing”, referring to the perennial stream known today as the Santa Clara River. The new signage along the trails explores how plants were used by indigenous peoples, the area's connection to the Southern Paiute, and the importance of the Santa Clara river to local history.
