The 2026 US Half Marathon Championships were a disaster.

I raced the us half champs, and it went in a direction I never could have seen coming. Just after mile 12, Jess McClain, Emma Grace Hurley, and Ednah Kurgat (who had about a 45sec lead on 4th place) were led off course by the official lead vehicle. They were not directed back on course until they had run over 400m off course. At that point, they turned around and got back on the course, but they had lost valuable time and ended up missing out on the US team spots and prize money that they were likely going to win. This is a complete disaster, and it's incredibly unfair to the athletes. Something needs to be done to rectify the situation.
