When I thought 2024 couldn't get any worse for the video game industry, the US Copyright Office officially rejected the petition for game preservation to be an exemption to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). This means that older games are going to be less accessible now, as companies will not be allowed to remotely lend their games to others via a virtual library, as the Video Game History Game Foundation hoped for. So today I discuss why this is a THREAT to game preservation and what's going to happen next.
