Women of Ferguson.
In this talk, Dr. Hillary Potter details and provides analysis of her three-year-long ethnographic investigation in and near Ferguson, Mo., in the wake of the Aug. 9, 2014, police shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. This project specially examines the experiences and impact of women involved in social justice and racial justice activism to combat police and other state violence against members of the African diaspora in the United States. Dr. Potter’s research has sought to better understand reasons for women – black women in particular – choosing to join in and lead the fight for justice for black peoples and to explore, contextualize, and conceptualize the experiences of women in the movement for black lives.
