Hariyama has historically not been a great Pokémon in competitive. Hariyama overall suffers from bad stats, despite having a solid 120 base Attack stat and a high 144 HP stat. Its defensive stats, speed and typing leaves much to be desired. Hariyama even has the ability Guts to make it even stronger, however it still not enough to make it a viable threat. It did have its moments in Gen 4 & Gen 5 VGC, but it never really shined in competitive singles.
However Hariyama has actually been quickbanned from a different format, this being gen 9 almost any ability. Almost any ability is, as the name implies, a format where you can use almost any ability.
So what made this underwhelming pokemon banworthy from this tier?
