It seems like this year is going to be a year full of firsts! Not only did I perform for the first time in-person, but I also did my very first Game Jam last month! Here is the result of the 48 hour challenge~
To provide some background, the theme for this year's Global Game Jam was Duality. We integrated the theme in this way: there are 2 different types of enemies, and you can only hit one type of enemy in each mode. This results in the player needing to swap modes/environments multiple times in order to kill all the enemies.
I was tasked with making a battle theme for this game. I was given 2 reference tracks from NieR and told to try and recreate that style within the 48 hour limit.
I thought it'd be fun to make 2 versions of the battle theme, so that when the player swaps modes, the music changes along with the game environment. NieR has something similar with 8-bit versions of the orchestral tracks.
Again, we only had 48 hours to make as much of the game as possible, so keep that in mind if you decide to download it! I'm currently learning Wwise so I can better integrate music and sound FX into games in the future.
