The Ward Family's Christmas light display appeared on ABC's The Great Christmas Light Fight 2023. They won their episode, but what happens when your home becomes famous overnight for drone shows? Well, you give the people what they want to create more magic for the whole neighborhood.
After each episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight, one family wins $50,000. The Ward family took home the prize this episode, but they wanted to give back to a cause they felt deeply connected to. The Dallas Hope Mommies are a non-profit 501c3 that helps families dealing with the loss of a child. After the loss of their infant daughter Briley in 2020, Preston and Tara Ward learned about the organization and joined. The organization creates a safe place for parents who’ve suffered from the pain of losing a child to gather and talk with others who’ve been through something similar. The Hope Mommies come together to create “hope boxes,” which are comprised of a soundtrack, a bible, a book, a candle, and other mementos that are given to parents who’ve just gone through child loss.
